FS 2-
Episode 1
My
Reflections
Practices worth adapting:
The practices in-lined with teaching-learning process performed by the
teacher which are worth adapting or emulating are:
§
Setting Objectives before the class
§
Praying before the class begun
§
Students centered teaching strategies
§
Assessment of learning
§
Immediate feedback
§
Informative assignment
On the other hand; the practices which may be avoided or may be
improved are the following:
§
Objectives are to broad
§
High students expectation about the results is
very high
Lesson learned:
The very lesson that I learned is that, as a millennial; I should
anchored to the Philosophy of Learning by doing and student centered
curriculum. It means that I should base
my classroom activities on the principle that the students are the one who
should process learning and the teacher serve only to facilitate the learning
to run smoothly.
Principles
of Learning in My Own Words
My principle of learning is centered
on individual differences. Individual’s
differences in attitude of learners may serves as a challenge for a better
teaching assessment and methods of a teacher. Since all students have different
cultural background, language abilities, religion, family, race and behavior;
the teacher must know that these diversities can enriches the student learning
capacities, because students’ diversity can do the following:
§ Enhance learners’ self-awareness
§ Contribute to cognitive development
§ Prepare the learners as responsible members of society
§ Promote harmony and unity
§ Develop the student-to-student understanding
§ Enhance the teacher-student relationship
I am also advocate to the
philosophy of John Dewey’s known as Progressivism.” School should follow the idealisms of John
Dewey’s propositions on a progressive education system which emphasizes of a
child-centered curriculum base institution.
According
to Dewey excellent education should have both a collective purpose and reason
for the individual learners. For Dewey, the long-term substance, but so does
the short-term quality of an educational experience. teachers are liable, thus, for providing learners with
experiences and competent knowledge that are immediately precious and which
progress and permit the learners to contribute to humanity.
Traditional
education system as proposed by the traditionalist viewer of curriculum is
lacking of planning approach in understanding the students’ needs and designing
curricula overly focused on content rather than content-process and to the
learners interest.
Therefore,
in order to the school in providing proficient product of learners in coping
with global competition of technology, the school should follow the idealisms
of John Dewey on education.
